REC’s Prices Plummet But New Orders Won’t Be Effected

Well we know things can change fast in the solar industry and last week was no exception; no sooner did we post up the latest REC’s prices then they fell quite a bit lower, down to $27.00 in fact, which is the worst they have been for a long time.

The good news of course is that in a few weeks it won’t matter anymore once the price becomes fixed in January 2011 at $40, and since we know that will be the case all of our quotes done between now and the end of the year will be allowing for the greatly improved REC’s prices soon to come. So if you have been holding off on purchasing your Solar PV Grid System because of that you don’t need to wait any longer, and we urge you to get in quickly before the rush in January as we are already fully booked with installations until February.

And you want to make sure that your purchase is finalised by the end of June because prices will be rising then, due to a new piece of government legislation announced today by Climate Change Minister Greg Combet; which will see the Solar Credits multiplier for household power systems be reduced by one from 1 July 2011.

The change will see this multiplier stepped down a year earlier than originally planned, from five times the deemed rate of renewable energy certificates to four times……According to the release, the change was made in response to the falling price of solar power systems and was “targeted at ensuring solar power systems are not provided at little or no out-of-pocket expense” to consumers.

Fortunately the increases to the REC’s prices will ensure that solar energy product prices remain at their current very affordable levels, unlike the price of electricity!
