With many industrial businesses being concerned about not only their rising electricity prices but also the uncertainty about the carbon tax pricing it is not surprising that Premier Solar Qld has had a number of mid size solar panel installations this month, with this 9.69KWh one in Brisbane being a typical example.

As you can see the business concerned has roof space to spare, and with their electricity usage averaging about 9 KW’s a day their new double row of solar panels are a match made in heaven. If you weren’t already aware, solar PV systems become comparatively more affordable the larger you go, in that while the maximum energy output will double from a 5kWh to this 9.69KWH the cost increase is much less so.

What this means in practical terms is that if you have the required installation space for a larger system then think seriously about using it, because although your initial installation cost will be higher, your ongoing return on investment will be proportionately better as well. There has been some concern since the news was released that the maximum size for the Qld Feed in Tariff Scheme will be reduced to only 5KWh as of June 7th, but there is no real problem involved for businesses. While it does mean that you won’t be able to access the Premium Feed in Tariff rate of 44c, you will still be able to sell any excess electricity you produce back to the grid at the same or slightly better rate then you pay for it.

For most manufacturing type businesses their electricity usage is such that their major concern is simply to be able to eliminate their bills and stop being powerless against ongoing price rises, which are expected to worsen over the next 3 years. The Premium Tariff Scheme was a nice bonus, but for most businesses even without that the figures will still stack up well for a favorable return on your investment.
