Sunshine Coast Solar Panel Council Approval No Longer Required
In good news for Sunshine Coast residents, the local council has announced that no Planning Approval is now needed for Solar Panel rooftop installations, and that it may or may not be needed for ground based installations.
The Sunshine Coast Council is striving to encourage its residents to embrace alternative energy sources by encouraging them to make the switch to solar power, and so are endeavoring to make it easier by getting rid of unnecessary costs, and implementing a set of standardised rules to make approval easier or not required. Julie Edwards, the Director of Sunshine Coast Council, is committed to sustainability and for any out-dated red tape to be removed that needed to be. In addition, the council is also determined to offer more certainty to the local solar power industry, which is appreciated as it has taken some blows lately due to the impending changes in the Queensland Solar Scheme as well as the big drop in REC’s values.
To further support this stance the Sunshine Coast Council will hold Solar Power information sessions in its public libraries throughout the month of June.
These public meetings will tackle everything that residents need to know about solar energy. Participants will learn how residential solar panels work, how they can and will reduce your electric bill and possibly eliminate it for good, the various types of solar panels available for the Sunshine Coast and the advantages and drawbacks of each, and the different types of solar power systems available. Lastly the sessions are designed to create further awareness and a sense of social responsibility for us all to pull together to do our bit to help to reduce our carbon footprints.
